With the practical (and often humorous) voice of experience, Rome helps theatre educators plan and prepare technical theatre projects, and avoid crucial errors. What class is Teaching Tech You Never Learned designed for?

Teaching Tech is designed for adding tech into a Theatre Arts 1 class. The program is incredibly open-ended and full of opportunities to adjust the level of activities to meet the needs of your specific class.

Saddled with a combined Acting-Tech class? The book has a curriculum for handling that, too.

There are also sections for a regular Tech Theatre class and for enhancing your theatre productions as well.

What is Teaching Tech?

It’s a curriculum workbook built on simple, engaging, and activity-based learning. Each unit includes basic background information, terms, projects and a grading rubric, so it’s a 100+ page workbook with a full year of activities.

Plus, you can teach these weekly, in a semester or all year-long. Got actors and techies mixed together? There's a plan included for just such a combo curriculum. And for a regular tech class, there are advanced projects, too. Finally, you'll get valuable information for enhancing your theatre productions as well.

Here’s a look at the skills your students will be able to work with:

  • Set Design

  • Stage Lighting

  • Sound

  • Costumes

  • Makeup

  • Props

  • Painting

  • Publicity

Theatre Arts is so much more than just learning acting and theatre history. It’s about
building "context" knowledge of key skills and information that will help round out your students' knowledge of what it takes to make theatre.

These topics introduce your students to so many important and new skills and concepts, ones they may not have had exposure to yet. You may have future IATSE members right under your nose!
